Datur sepulturae |
The noble body of Christ, hope of future life, |
[1] conditur] conditor D-Mbs 3154, C
[2] iugis] iugi D-Mbs 3154, C
[3] sit] sic D-Mbs 3154, C
This edition is based on D-Mbs 3154, f. 48v. The text of this last motet of the cycle was emended in three places: in line 3 the incorrect ‘conditor’ (‘creator’) was corrected to ‘conditur’ (‘is treated’); in line 4 ‘iugi’ was changed to ‘iugis’ and ‘sic’ to ‘sit’. For further comments see the General commentary.

---|---|---|---|---|---|
D-Mbs_3154 | designation of voices | –, Contra altus, Tenor, Contratenor | |||
1 2 3 4 | D-Mbs_3154 | clefs | clefs are missing in all the voices; the original clefs must have been c1, c3, c3, f3 | ||
1 2 3 4 | D-Mbs_3154 | key signatures | key signatures are oddly placed in all the voices; for further details, see the Introduction | ||
1 2 3 4 | D-Mbs_3154 | text underlay | the text is only underlaid in the C; no text in the other voices; incipit in the T: ‘Datur sepulturae’ | ||
1 | 1 | D-Mbs_3154 | pitch and rhythm | Br rest missing | |
3 | 1 | D-Mbs_3154 | pitch and rhythm | dotted Mi d'' instead of b' (corrected to avoid three parallel fifths with the T) | |
5 | 4 | D-Mbs_3154 | coloration | the Br must be ternary even if it is blackened | |
8 | 3 | D-Mbs_3154 | pitch and rhythm | Sb a instead of b | |
8 | 3 | D-Mbs_3154 | accidentals | a flat was added later, referring to the Sb in this measure (wrongly notated as a, see the previous comment); as there was no space before the note concerned, the flat was enterd before the previous one | Show |
14 | 2 | D-Mbs_3154 | ligatures | the ligature refers to Sb b and a | |
14 | 2 | D-Mbs_3154 | pitch and rhythm | the second Sb of the lig. was originally g, then erased | Show |
14-15 | 2 | D-Mbs_3154 | pitch and rhythm | two blackened Sb f' and g' and Br g' superposed to Sb b and a (in lig.) and Sb g; in the whole Natus sapientia cycle, this is the only case of divisi occurring in the middle of a motet (but the A ends with divisi in six motets out of eight) | Show |
21 | 1 | D-Mbs_3154 | musical symbols | the Sb d’ was written later over the custos already traced; a new custos has then been added | Show |
21 | 3 | D-Mbs_3154 | pitch and rhythm | b Br instead of Sb | |
26 | 3 | D-Mbs_3154 | pitch and rhythm | last Sb d' instead of f'' (corrected to avoid parallel octaves with the C) | |
27 | 3 | D-Mbs_3154 | pitch and rhythm | despite the ficta flat on the Sb a' in the A, no ficta flat was added to the Mi a in the T in order to follow the melodic movement of the voice | |
31 | 3 | D-Mbs_3154 | pitch and rhythm | Br c' instead of b | |
31-35 | 4 | D-Mbs_3154 | ligatures | ligs. splitted in order to accommodate all the syllables |
