[i] Iesu] yhesu Librone 1, C T B

[ii] Iesu] yhesu Librone 1, C A B

The edition of this text is based on Librone 1 (ff. 163v–164r), where it was written by Scribe A.
There are neither mistakes nor substantial variants to be registered for the second motet of the cycle. Only the spelling of the word ‘Yhesus’ varies from the classical spelling (Jesus or Iesus), but this is typical of medieval Latin. The subject of this motet is again devotion to Christ and its textual source is again the prayer Ave Domine Iesu Christe verbum patris. Based on the loco rubrics in the manuscript we know that Ave Domine Iesu Christe laus angelorum was sung during, or instead of, the recitation of the Gloria. Thus it is possible that the performance created some textual interference with this chant, for instance through the mention of ‘laus’, ‘gloria’, and ‘pax’, since these same concepts are also central in the Gloria.[1]
