[1] virginis] viginis Librone 1, C
The edition of this text is based on Librone 1 (ff. 162v–163r), where it was written by Scribe A.
Except for one single copying mistake (‘viginis’ instead of virginis in A) there are neither mistakes nor substantial variants to be registered. The subject of this motet, as well as of the three following motets of the cycle, is devotion to Christ and its textual source is chosen accordingly: all the first four motets are based on the Christological prayer that gives the title to the cycle, Ave Domine Iesu Christe verbum patris. This prayer consists of a series of attributes of Christ and it is often found in books of hours.[1]
